Music fans can enjoy a double dose of hot summer blues Thursday night in downtown Kirkland with two bands playing their sad songs from 7:30 almost straight through to midnight.

The first free all-ages kicks off the evening with the Fabulous Roof Shakers rocking the rafters of the pavilion. Theyโ€™re a seasoned band of veteran local players with a big repertoire that includes New Orleans blues, Chicago blues and Texas Shuffle.

โ€œI think theyโ€™ll be a good fit for Kirkland,โ€ says and singer in the bluegrass band Back Burner. โ€œTheyโ€™re primarily a blues band that plays a mix of fun, favorite tunes. Their singer is a very strong vocalist.โ€

The Roof Shakers have played the downtown for years. They play from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Then the barely 100 yards away welcomes back to Kirkland a promising young Seattle bluesman and his band, Ayron Jones and the Way. Jonesโ€™ strong points are his seriously wicked guitar chops -- see the attached You Tube video of his cover of Hendrixโ€™ Little Wing -- and his appropriately smoky, bluesy singing voice.

The band last played in town this last spring at the . This time its a 21-and-over show with no cover charge.

Jones and the Way take the stage at 9 -- and will be introduced by Kirkland Patch editor Greg Johnston. Stop in and say hello and listen to some great blues!
