Update: Fatal I-405 Crash Blamed on Audi Exceeding 100 MPH, WSP Says

A fatal rollover and crash blocked Interstate 405 in Bellevue near NE 4th Street. One was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide, according to the Washington State Patrol.

A Woodinville manย was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide after a fatalย rollover crash around 10 p.m. Thursday Sept. 12ย on southbound Interstate 405, according to the Washington State Patrol.

According to Washington State Patrol reports, a 27-year-old Woodinville man whoย was arrestedย was driving a 2008ย Audi RS4 in excess ofย 100 mph and struck aย BMW in the rear. The BMW rolled and caught fire. The driver of the BMW, a 22-year-old Federal Way man,ย died at the scene, he said. His name has not yet been released.

WSP reported that troopers believe the driver of Audi may have beenย under the influence of drugs, possibly methamphetamine. The driver of the Audiย and his passenger, a 25-year-old Woodinville woman,ย were taken to Overlake Hospital Medical Center for injuries, he reported.ย 

Two other vehicles were also struck in the collision, though none reported serious injuries, he said. One of the vehicles, a 2012 Honda Ridgeline, was occupied by a 67-year-old Woodinville man and woman, and both were transported to Overlake Hospital for treatment. The driver of the fourth vehicle was uninjured and drove his car from the scene.

The freeway remained closed for seven hours after the initial crash as troopers investigated.

One person is dead and all southbound lanes were blockedย after a fatal rollover and crash on Interstate 405 in Bellevue bear NE 4th Street, according to the Washington State Patrol.

All lanes of SB I-405 at NE 4th were blocked from around 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, and as of 11 p.m. two lanes remained blocked,ย according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.ย 

According to Washington State Patrolย Trooper Chris Webb, preliminary indications are that a vehicle may have hit two other vehicles, and thenย rolled. That vehicle was previously reported at a "high rate," he wrote on Twitter. The person who died was in that vehicle, he reported.
