Fire Causes $50,000 in Damage to Juanita-Area Apartment

Occupants of unit at Woodlake Apartments were not home at the time, no injuries reported

Kirkland firefighters quickly extinguished a fire Saturday afternoon that started on the deck of a second-floor unit at the Woodlake Apartments, and extended into the attic.

The fire, which occured in the 1400 block of 132nd St., was reported by a neighbor at 3:12 p.m. who saw flames on the deck, said Mike Jeffrey of the Kirkland Fire Department.ย

Firefighters gained access to the attic by cutting a hole in the roof and put out the flames there and on the deck.

The occupants of the apartment were not home at the time and no injuries were reported. However, the damage will prevent them from living there for awhile.

The interior of the unit did not sustain much damage but the total damage estimate is about $50,000, Jeffrey said.
