Several decades ago the First Ladyโs fashion sense made the headlines; this week itโs Michelle Obamaโs green thumb and the release of her new book, โAmerican Grown: The story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America.โ

Part autobiography and partly a gardening โhow-to,โ the book also serves as an inspiration for healthy living, according to an article in the Huffington Post.ย Thereโs even a section with healthy recipes for homegrown herbs and produce.

While the White House garden gets all the attention, we know that gardeners in Kirkland are enjoying a good season so far. Kirkland Patch editor Greg Johnston's garden patch is off to a robust start with garlic, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, green beans and zucchini; peppers are going in next and the blueberry bushes are loaded with little green berries.
