Flipped Trailer Causes Delays On I-405 In Kirkland

Troopers and transportation crews were working to clear spilled drywall after a trailer overturned on southbound Interstate 405.

KIRKLAND, WA โ€” The right three southbound lanes of Interstate 405 were blocked Wednesday afternoon, after a truck lost one of its trailers and spilled cargo on the freeway, according to Washington State Patrol.

The Washington State Department of Transportation said drywall was strewn across three lanes, but the Express Toll Lanes were open to all traffic. Officials estimated backups from the spill stretched three miles. By 12:30 p.m., travel times from Alderwood to Southcenter hit one hour.

Trooper Rick Johnson posted photos from the scene just after noon and said the cleanup was underway, but cautioned drivers should expect delays near the NE 85th St. exit until the scene was clear. Fortunately, Johnson said no one was injured and what caused the trailer to flip was not immediately clear. WSP detectives will complete a full investigation into the incident.
