Habib, Hunter Leading Returns in 48th District Primary

Democrats Cyrus Habib and Ross Hunter are leading early voter returns for the two District 48 state representative races, which include the southern part of Kirkland.

In King County, 14,688 ballots had been counted as of 8 p.m. Tuesday. The county has more than 72,000 voters.

In the Position 1 race, incumbent Ross Hunter had gathered 68 percent of the vote, compared with opponent Bill Hirt's 32 percent.

In the Position 2 race, Bellevue Democrat Cyrus Habib had brought in 55 percent of votes. His opponent, Redmond City Council member Hank Myers, a Republican, had earned 45 percent of votes.

All four candidates will progress to the general election, as Washington's primary system advances the top two candidates in each race, regardless of party affiliation.

The race between Habib and Myers turned controversial earlier this summer when that allegedly asked provocative and insinuating questions about both candidates.
