LW Tech to Provide Free Dental Sealants for Kids on Feb. 4

The event is part of Children's Dental Health Month and is designed provide preventative treatments to kids who lack insurance.

Preventative dental sealant treatments will be provided free to children 6 to 13 by state-registered dental hygienists and dental hygiene students at Kirklandโ€™s (LWIT) on Saturday, Feb. 4.

Free Kids Dental Sealant Day, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., is being hosted by the institute and the Lake Washington Dental Hygienistsโ€™ Society as part of National Childrenโ€™s Dental Health Month. The event is designed to help children who would otherwise not have preventative treatments due to a lack of insurance. The sealants are non-toxic white coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of molars and provide six to eight years of cavity protection.

Exams by licensed dentists, bite-wing x-rays and fluoride varnish (a value of more than $300) will also be provided to the children. Those whose teeth cannot be sealed due to decay may have their cavities filled at a later date at the LWIT Dental Clinic at no charge.

โ€œWeโ€™re thrilled to have this opportunity to provide dental care to children in need,โ€ said Danette Lindeman, a registered dental hygienist and Sealant Day chair at LWIT. โ€œEveryone involved in this event is volunteering their time โ€“ the dental professionals, students and even LWIT staff โ€“ so we can help up to 150 kids get this valuable service.โ€

Space is limited. To reserve a place, please call the LWIT dental clinic at (425) 739-8130. The institute is at 11605 132nd Avenue NE in Kirkland.

LWITโ€™s Dental Clinic offers low-cost dental treatments to the general public. To see a list of procedures and costs, please visit the website at www.lwtech.edu/dentalclinic.
