Mayor to Present Kirkland CACHET Award March 5

Mayor Joan McBride will announce the winner of Kirkland’s second CACHET Award -- for Collaboration of Arts, Culture, Heritage and Theatre -- during a public ceremony March 5 at ’s Creatio Studios.

The award honors an individual or business for contributions to Kirkland’s arts, culture and/or heritage. , and the former, Creatio founder and , is hosting this year’s event.

He received the individual award for creating the university’s musical arts curriculum and “U Rock,” an after-school program open to Kirkland-area students 11 to 18. Lockhart designed and built Creatio, a world-class recording facility that is available for use by the general public.

The public is invited to the ceremony, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the studios, which are in Northwest University's Barton Building, 11220 NE 53rd Street, Kirkland. The Ethan Bowe Band and students of the Creatio program will perform, light hors d'oeuvres will be served and the Creatio Studios will be open for tours.

Last year’s organization award went to , which for almost 25 years has hosted many public events and served Kirkland, and is one of only two independent bookstores left on the Eastside.

Nominations were pre-screened by the Kirkland Collaboration of Arts, Culture, Heritage, Education, and Theatre (CACHET) committee, made up of members of the Kirkland Cultural Council. This year's winner was selected by the Kirkland Cultural Council and Mayor McBride.
