Reminder: Fate of King County Parks Levy Will Be Decided in Primary Election

King County voters will determine the fate of a King County parks levy intended to replace two expiring 2007 levy lid lifts.

The proposed six-year lid lift amounts to 18 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value, 8 cents more than the previous two levies of 5 cents each. If it passes, the new levy would result in an increase of $26.31 for a home valued at $300,000.

Funds from the levy would be used to maintain the county's parks and trails and to expand the regional trail system. (More info on the levy can be found here.)

The measure requires a simple majority to pass.

Along with the levy, county voters will select two candidates for the general election in the race for King County executive. Information on each of the four candidates, including Executive Dow Constantine, can be found here.

King County Council members Rod Dembowski (District 1) and Reagan Dunn (District 9) will also face challengers in the primary.

Ballots must be postmarked by Aug. 6 or returned to a designated drop box by 8 p.m. that day. In Kirkland, a ballot drop off van will be available Aug 3 and Aug. 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Election Day, Aug. 6, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Kirkland City Hall, 123 5th Avenue.
