VIP Ribbon Cutting at Cogir of Kirkland Draws Crowd on June 20

Cogir of Kirkland, a premier assisted living and independent living community nestled in the sought-after Lakeview neighborhood and boasting lake and skyline views, celebrated a VIP Grand Opening on June 20. Deputy City Manager Jim Lopez joined City Councilmember John Tymczyszyn, along with senior Cogir executives and other VIPS and industry partners for a ribbon cutting on Thursday, June 20, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The general public is invited to a second, larger celebration on Saturday, June 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“This is really a great day for our business community, our senior community, and for Kirkland,” said Councilmember Tymczyszyn. “This is a beautiful location, a beautiful neighborhood…thank you for coming to Kirkland.”

“I used to live in Kirkland, and Kirkland is a beautiful place - it’s a beautiful place to live,” said David Eskenazy, CEO of Cogir. “This is really not a building, it’s a home… it’s beautiful in its uniqueness and I really would encourage you to walk around today and see all the little places in this community that make it very, very special.”

The Grand Opening celebrations offer a chance for Cogir to show off significant renovations that the community has completed under new management. The upgrades include modernized living spaces, state-of-the-art amenities, and beautifully conceived common areas designed to foster a vibrant and active community. Planned so that caregivers have a straight line of sight and residents have easy access to the center of the community where they will participate in cognitively stimulating activities, no detail has been overlooked. The completed renovations resulted in a comfortable, elegant environment that feels like home - all while providing best-in-class care. The community comprises 76 apartments in a variety of sizes ranging from 375 to 745 square feet. Common areas include a bistro cafe, movie theater, game room, activities room, library and salon/barbershop.

The celebration on June 20 featured wine tastings from award-winning St. Hilaire Cellars and entertainment was provided by acclaimed Brazilian guitarist Marco de Carvalho. Renowned local artist Irina Johnson showcased her work at the event, and guests were treated to a diverse array of food options including a special tasting menu curated by Cogir of Kirkland's Executive Chef, Ruben Guerrero.

“I’ve done a lot of things in my life… but that was a first for cutting a ribbon!” said Bill Miller, 91, the first resident to move into Cogir of Kirkland last February. The event was so enjoyable for him that he kept half the ribbon after the ceremony.

At the Grand Opening Celebration on June 22, illustrious electric cellist Gretchen Yanover will perform. Adult children and their parents will also have the opportunity to tour the boutique sized community, and see for themselves how easy it is to navigate for residents. Both peer interaction and a sense of independence and capability are able to be cultivated in the beautiful spaces that feel like home to residents.
