Volunteers Needed for Pearl Jam Reforestation at Crestwoods Feb. 11
The rock band is paying for the reforestation off 33 acres of forest lands in King County, including eight acres at Kirkland's Crestwoods Park. Word is guitarist Stone Gossard might show up.
The band Pearl Jam is rocking a green tune by donating money for reforestation projects in the region, and one of them is Kirklandโs Crestwoods Park, where on Saturday, Feb. 11, volunteers will plant hundreds of trees.
Word is Stone Gossard, guitarist for the huge Seattle rock band, might even show up.
The cityโs Green Kirkland Partnership is asking residents, especially Pearl Jam fans, to turn out and help, and it should be a fun, family friendly event, with cool prizes donated by the band to be handed out.
Pearl Jam donated the money in 2010 as an effort to mitigate the carbon emissions from travel during its 2009 world tour - calculated at some 5,474 metric tons of CO2. The conservation group Forterra, formerly the Cascade Land Conservancy, is coordinating the reforestation of 33 acres of forested park land in King County, partnering with the Green Kirkland, Green Kent, Green Redmond and Green Seattle Partnerships.
On Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., volunteers will remove invasive, non-native species like Himalayan blackberry and plant native trees in an eight-acre section of the 27-acre park.
