LAKEWOOD, WA β€” One man was killed in a house fire early Tuesday morning.

First responders say they got a call just after 2 a.m. of a home on fire in the 11600 block of A Street S in Parkland. When they arrived, they found a home engulfed in flames. Investigators say that seven adults lived in the house, but only six had managed to evacuate, waking up to the smell of smoke in the middle of the night and fleeing the home.

The seventh, a 41-year-old man, was likely entrapped inside the home and unable to escape. One of his roommates had tried to find him, even kicking in the door to his room to set him free, but ultimately couldn't find the man because of the thick smoke. The victim was found dead inside the building shortly after crews arrived.

Firefighters managed to quickly get the fire under control, but the house was damaged enough that three of the residents have essentially lost their homes.

Now that all seven residents are accounted for the fire is under control, the Fire Marshals Office and Pierce County Sheriff's Department will be investigating the cause of the fire, but so far, deputies say it does not appear to be suspicious.
