Pierce County Sheriff's Department deputies called in officers from Steilacoom, and Lakewood Police, surrounded the suspect's apartment and demanded he surrender. A SWAT team negotiator made several announcements asking the suspect to exit the apartment, but it wasn't until around 1:40 p.m. when officers got the suspect on the phone, and convinced him to step outside and into police custody.

The suspect, identified only as a 27-year-old man, was then arrested without any further incident. Deputies say they expect he will be booked into the Pierce County Jail on homicide charges.

Exactly what lead up to the deadly shooting is still unknown. Deputies say they will continue to process the scene and interview witnesses through the evening Thursday.
