BLACKOUT AT THE CLINK: Washington Stuns No. 8 Stanford

The University of Washington is again a giant-slayer.

Despite facing a bigger, more physical offensive line, the Huskies defense stuffed the Stanford rushng attack and got a timely interception to seal a 17-13 upset victory over the No. 8-ranked team in the country Thursday night.

Playing at CenturyLink Field in Seattle - the site of Golden Tate's controversial game-winning touchdown catch for the Seahawks just four days earlier - Washington didn't need any replays to confirm who won. It was the school's first victory against a Top 10 opponent since 2009, when it beat Southern California.

Early Thursday night, the Huskies couldn't muster any meaningful drives, as the Cardinal's defensive front hit UW quarterback Keith Price often. The problem for Stanford was its quarterback, Josh Nunes, wasn't doing any better.

A Trent Murphy interception for touchdown put the Cardinal up 13-3 late in the third, but the Huskies struck back on the final play of the quarter. UW handed the ball off to running back Bishop Sankey, who sprang past the initial defensive push, made two defenders miss and scampered 61 yards to pull UW to within three points heading into the fourth quarter.

Then, after the Huskies defense continued to stop Stanford - the same team that dismantled then No. 2-USC two weeks ago - Price found Skyline product Kasen Williams up the right sideline for a 35-yard touchdown pass, giving UW a 17-13 lead.

With only one drive left, Stanford made its way into Washington territory. But facing a fourth-and-4, Nunes lofted a fade pass over the outstretched arms of his receiver and into the hands of Husky back Desmond Trufant, a product of Tacoma's Wilson High.

And when it was all over, when the Husky nation shocked the college football world, , it ignited a frenzied celebration of purple-and-black-cad fans who rushed midfield.
