SWAT Team Arrests Man Accused Of Killing JBLM Soldier

LAKEWOOD, WA — The Pierce County Sheriff's Department reported late Monday that its SWAT team captured a man who was accused of killing a Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier earlier this month, authorities said.

The victim, an unidentified 24-year-old man and active duty soldier at JBLM, died from his injuries on June 18, officials said.

The Pierce County SWAT team arrested a 37-year-old man early Monday afternoon in the killing.

The man, who was not identified, was booked into the Pierce County Jail on charges of second-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm, authorities said.

Deputies found the severely injured victim while responding to a call just after 6 p.m. June 18 about a deadly shooting in the 1600 block of 112th Stree South in Parkland.

By the time deputies arrived, the shooter was gone.

After more than a week of investigation, the Sheriff's Department said its deputies tracked the suspect to a Tacoma apartment.
