Local Youth Select Fastpitch Softball Finish in Top Spots at State Tournament
Flame 10U, a select team of Mercer Island's top youth fastpitch softball players, finished fourth and two Islanders playing on a Bellevue team finished first at the NSA State Tournament in Pasco last weekend.
Mercer Island's top youth fastpitch softball talent finished among the top athletes last weekend in the National Softball Association State Tournament, held in the Tri-Cities area June 29 - July 1.
Flame Fastpitch 10U, a select traveling team with five Mercer Island girls on the roster, went 4 and 2 and finished 4th out of 12 teams in the tournament.
Flame Fastpitch 10U Islanders include Andie Pillsbury, Angelina Barokas, Emily Rowe, Hannah Kelley, Natalie Wilson. The team is coached by Taia Walters, assistant coach Steve Olynyk

In an older age group, two Mercer Island softball select players celebrated winning the State Tournament B bracket, going undefeated the entire weekend. Every girl on this team was born in the year 2000, hence the name, and making it one of the youngest squads in the tournament group. The team includes two MI girls Jessica Ramseyer and Olivia Kane.
