Mercer Island 9th Grader Selected for USA Baseball Trials

The Mercer Island pitcher will try-out for a spot on the U.S. National Team in the U16 age division.

William Mansfield, a ninth grader at , was recently selected to be part of the 18 member Baseball Northwest team that will travel to Cary, NC Sept. 8-11 to compete for spots on the USA Baseball 16U National Team. Players were selected from six U.S. Northwest states including WA, OR, ID, AK, MT, and WY.   

The event, known as the National Team Identification Series, brings together approximately 300 of the top 15U players from around the country to vie for one of 18 spots on next year's US National Team in the U16 age-division.

Mansfield's name might be familiar because he was one of the 13 players who played in the 2009 Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.

Baseball Northwest puts on a number of instructional camps and tournaments over the summer with the goal of providing exposure for players hoping to play in college or the pros.

Since 1995, Baseball Northwest has been the regional organization responsible for providing USA Baseball with the NW NTIS teams.  USA Baseball is the national governing body for the sport of baseball, representing the sport in the United States as a member of the US Olympic Committee (USOC) and internationally as a member federation of the International Baseball Federation (IBF).
