In related youth baseball news, the Mercer Island Select U-11 Thunder team went undefeated and captured first place in the USSSA Summer Celebration baseball tournament in Lacey, WA last weekend.  The team outscored their competition 24-5 in the three games, beating the Pierce County Diamond Jaxx, 5-3, in the championship game.  Pitchers Parker Simpson, Nikhil Nayar, Justin Ho and Matt Boissoneault led the team with outstanding efforts.
