Update: Police Seek Armed Suspects in West Mercer Way Attempted Robbery

Checking on an unusual noise outside her South-end home on Tuesday, a local woman alleged two men tried to rob her at gunpoint.

are looking for two suspects thought to be involved in an attempted robbery Tuesday night at a home on the 8200 block of West Mercer Drive.

According to a MIPD press release, the homeowner heard some noise outside her residence at around 4:25 p.m. As she checked on a possible source of the noise, the woman opened her front door and discovered two African American men on her porch. One of the men said he was looking for a landscaping job. When the homeowner said she didn’t have any such job, the same man pointed a handgun at her. The homeowner was able to quickly slam the door shut, lock it, and called 911.

The men then reportedly fled the scene in a stolen car — described by police as an older maroon 4-door sedan, which appeared to be lowered, possibly similar to a Ford Falcon. The car was located later Tuesday night on Mercer Island but a K-9 search was unsuccessful. Police believe a residential burglary in Tukwila — from an address near where the car was stolen from — and the attempted robbery on Mercer Island are linked.
