Deputies say when they arrived, the 30-year-old victim was quickly declared dead and the suspect was still on scene, so they took him into custody. He has since been booked into Pierce County Jail for Murder in the 2nd Degree.
The sheriff's department is still trying to determine exactly what led up to the shooting, but say they believe the suspect had initiated contact by confronting the victim about him trespassing on a nearby property. According to the Tacoma News Tribune, the victim and his girlfriend had parked a van in an empty lot owned by the Dryer Masonic Center. The suspect had no known affiliation with the center.
