Suspect Killed In Puyallup Police Shooting

A 30-year-old man has died after a shooting in Puyallup late Sunday.

PUYALLUP, WA β€” One man has died after law enforcement agents opened fire on a suspect late Sunday night.

According to the Puyallup Police Department, one of their officers and two Pierce County Sheriff Deputies were called to assist Buckley Police as they investigated a felony domestic violence assault and felony harassment case. Officers say the suspect, only identified by police as a 30-year-old man, was wanted for an incident earlier in the day in Carbonado.

Police say they tracked him to a home in the 1700 block of Kilt Court in Puyallup, before trying to make contact.

Around 9:10 p.m. officers phoned dispatch to report that they had encountered the suspect in the road outside the home and that shots had been fired, and the suspect had been injured. Officers say they tried to treat the suspect's wounds and called for medics, but the person was pronounced dead shortly after. No officers were injured in the shooting.

Now the Pierce County Force Investigation team, or PC-FIT, has been called to handle follow-up investigation. PC-FIT is a county-wide agency that investigates deadly use of force from law enforcement officers. In a bid for transparency, Puyallup Police say the PC-FIT investigation team will not use officers from agencies involved in the shooting.

All the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, as is standard procedure following deadly use of force in Washington state.

Many of the events leading to Sunday night's shooting remain unclear. It is still unknown if the suspect had a weapon or had opened fire on officers. It's also not clear which officers from which agencies opened fire on the suspect. The exact details of the domestic violence investigation before the shooting have also not been released.
