PARKLAND, WA — The Pierce County Sheriff's Department bomb squad was called to investigate after someone found an unexploded mortar round in Parkland.

A "community liaison" was the first to report the round, according to deputies. It was found in the 700 block of 112th St E.

The bomb squad arrived shortly afterwards. Their initial assessment was that the 120mm mortar round is an inert training round. But just to be safe, they x-rayed the bomb and found that it was harmless.
