Boy Scouts in the Sammamish Trails District—which includes Kirkland and Redmond—will be taking part in a regional food drive called Scouting for Food later this month.
More than 30 packs and troops will be putting door hangers on homes next weekend asking for canned food donations. The scouts will go from doorstep to doorstep picking up food the following weekend. All donations must be placed outside by 8 a.m. on Saturday, Marh 24.
The annual effort benefits more than 50 food banks in the Seattle area; last year's drive yielded 500,000 cans of food.

“The concept of serving other people at all times, as stated in our Scout Oath, is something we emphasize with both the youth and adults in our programs,” Sharon Moulds, a spokeswoman for the Boy Scouts of America Chief Seattle Council, said in a news release. “Scouting for Food is meant to include everyone in the community; you don’t have to be a member of Scouting to help in the fight against hunger.”
