Photo Exhibit Highlights Redmond's Most-Renowned Artist

Dudley Carter is no longer with us, but a photo exhibit current on display at the explores his style and technique – in his own words. Before he died in 1992, at the age of 101, Carter worked with the Canada Council to chronicle his woodcarving legacy in photos and captions.  His family later loaned the exhibit to the Redmond Historical Society which, together with the City of Redmond Arts Commission, organized the display.  Carter was born in British Columbia and lived in Redmond for the second half of his long life.

The library has several Carter pieces on its premises, including one loaned from the Seattle Art Museum. Carter’s works include pieces at Marymoor and at other Redmond locations.  He was also a piece of art himself – Mexican muralist Diego Rivera included Carter and his famous ax in a large mural titledMarriage of the Artistic Expression of the North and of the South on this Continent.

In early 2012, the second part of the exhibit will be shown at the library.
