RHS Students Receive Scholarships from Redmond Rotary

From Rotary Club of Redmond:

Rotary Club of Redmond presented scholarships to three seniors at last week’s meeting. Rayna Ceaser, Allison Leigh Nichols and Alejandro Rincon each received $2,500 in funds to support college attendance and entry into their chosen career. Club President Steve Bozick made the presentation, and each student spoke a bit about their plans.

Rayna Ceaser plans to study nursing at Georgia State University or Southern University. Afterward, she wants to work with impoverished populations, hopefully in a Spanish-speaking country. Rayna has been employed during her high school years, but also has volunteered for a number of organizations, including the Pacific Science Center where she donated well over 100 hours. Among other roles, she was a volunteer at the Union Gospel Mission shelter for homeless women and children, which she describes as being one of the most rewarding opportunities for community service.

Allison Leigh Nichols will attend Gonzaga University next year. She plans to study engineering, and after college, hopes to design products that can “help enrich the lives of others.” Allison is described by her teachers as a “patient, positive and very hardworking” student, who has consistently been very conscientious about her work and study habits. Allison has been involved in athletics at Redmond High, participating on the cross country and track team for four years, during which she received the "most inspirational award" and the "most improved" awards.  She was also voted captain of the cross country team.

Alejandro Rincon will be attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., where he plans to study Industrial Engineering. Although he transferred to Redmond High in his senior year, Alejandro was able to excel in five Advanced Placement (AP) classes. Alejandro is a swimmer, and a member of the varsity tennis team, the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, which focuses on math awareness, competitions and tutoring. Alejandro has also studied piano for the past six years and is a member of the National Piano Playing Auditions. He has volunteered extensively outside of school, accumulating more than 260 hours of community service.
