REDMOND, WA — King County deputies are sharing renewed warnings about leaving valuables inside cars, especially during the holiday shopping season. In a social media post Monday, the sheriff's office flagged a recent example reported over Thanksgiving week just outside Redmond city limits.

Investigators say car prowlers made off with four Apple computers and other stolen items from two cars parked on 236th Avenue Northeast, just a few blocks up from Redmond-Fall City Road.

According to the sheriff's office, the tracking feature equipped on the apple devices led investigators to a Redmond Fred Meyer where the thieves attempted to use stolen credit cards. Deputies said the suspects got away but the investigation continued, utilizing store surveillance and other evidence.

The sheriff's office said the thefts served as an unwelcome reminder for all seasons.

"Any community can be touched by car prowlers. Our advice remains the same. Leave nothing valuable visible in your car. Stash computers, tablets and anything you treasure in your trunk. Your credit card is like gold to a car prowler. Even if they get only one purchase or two before fraud is detected, they can buy gift cards or other easily traded items at your expense. Always take cards with you."
