'Don't Let People Get in Your Way' – Redmond Girls Unlimited Conference a Sellout

Over 75 young women converged at Redmond City Hall last Saturday for the Third Annual Girls Unlimited Conference.

Over 75 young women converged at Redmond City Hall last Saturday for the Third Annual Girls Unlimited Conference, according to Ken Wong, the Teen and 50+ Programs administrator for the city of Redmond.

"It was a capacity crowd and I am sure there were folks on our waiting list that were not able to attend but that means more energy for the next one," he told Patch.

This session’s focus was Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math with presenters from Microsoft, Boeing, PopCap, Public Health and more. The young women heard the stories of how the presenters got into their careers and many shared their challenges.

Wong said a common theme was "Follow your dreams and don’t let people get in your way of what you're good at or passionate about." Another message was to "support each other in your dreams."

“Girls Unlimited it in its third year and we have tried to offer programs that inspire young women to reach for their dreams and see what they are capable of," Wong said. "This was a great event and the problem we have now is it is at capacity and how do we keep the intimate feel so participants get to ask questions and make sure everyone gets in. I think it is a great problem to have that we are too full, but we will work on creating a bigger and better event.”
