Marymoor Velodrome Coach Wins Olympics Silver in Track Cycling

Kirkland’s Jennie Reed earned a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London Saturday as the U.S. team finished behind Great Britain in Women's Team Pursuit Track Cycling.

The official results showed Canada finishing third to earn the bronze medal.

Reed, 34, a 15-time national champion, is a Kirkland resident who learned to race and coaches at the Marymoor Velodrome in Redmond. A career individual sprinter, she came out of retirement when asked to join the pursuit team by teammate Sarah Hammer, according to this story in the Seattle Times.

Reed did not ride in the final, but earns silver as a team member who raced in the preliminaries.

A few hours after the finals, Reed Tweeted "Olympic Silver Medal!!! We did it! So proud & happy!"

KING5 News and the Associated Press reported Saturday that the U.S. team of Hammer, Dotsie Bausch and Lauren Tamayo finished in 3:19.727 for silver. The host team of Dani King, Laura Trott and Joanna Rowsell set a world record in finishing at 3:14.051.
