Redmond To Address Uncertainty Over Pool, Old Redmond Schoolhouse

From The City of Redmond: The City of Redmond is hosting several events for community members to participate in facilitated discussions about the future of Redmond’s Community Centers and provide their feedback about the urgency to take action, priorities for amenities and center types, location for new facilities, and potential partnerships. Please bring your family and neighbors to one of these events or contact the City to arrange a meeting for your community group. These gatherings are kid-friendly and light snacks will be provided.

• Rose Hill Middle School – February 21 at 6:30 pm
• VALA at Redmond Town Center – February 22 at 6:30 pm
• SoulFood Coffee House – February 23 at 1:00 pm
• Highland Middle School (Overlake Village area of Bellevue) – February 27 at 6:30 pm

The existing community centers, including their meeting spaces and recreation and aquatic centers, need replacement or repair. The pool is on life support and the City is losing its lease for the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center. The pool has more than 90,000 visits per year and the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center has more than 170,000 visits per year. The loss of these facilities affects many individuals, community groups, sports teams, and programs that are essential to families. Community members need to decide what to do next. “We know the existing community centers are facing challenges, so these conversations with the community are really crucial to forging the right path forward,” said Parks and Recreation Director Maxine Whattam.
