Redmond is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Redmond has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.
A few things to know:
- Did you know that Redmond was once known as the Bicycle Capital of the Northwest? This is because it was home to the headquarters of several major bike manufacturers.
- Redmond is also home to the oldest winery in the state of Washington, Chateau Ste. Michelle. Established in 1934, this winery has won numerous awards and produces some of the finest wines in the region.
- For a fun outdoor activity, head to Marymoor Park, which is not only the largest park in Redmond, but also the most popular. With over 640 acres of green space, there's plenty to do, including a climbing wall, sports fields and a velodrome.
- Another unique attraction in Redmond is the Old Redmond Firehouse, which has served as the city's fire station for over 50 years. Today, it's been repurposed into a community center that hosts a variety of events and classes.
- Redmond is also known for its vibrant arts scene, with several galleries and public art installations throughout the city. Check out the Redmond Arts Festival, held annually in July, to see the best of local and regional artists.
- Redmond is home to one of the largest software companies in the world, Microsoft. The company's headquarters are located in the city and its large campus spans over 500 acres.
- Redmond is also home to the second-largest video game company in the world, Nintendo of America. The gaming company's U.S. headquarters employs over 1,000 people.
- The Sammamish River Trail is a popular bike and pedestrian path that runs through Redmond. The trail follows the Sammamish River and connects to several other trails in the area, making it a great way to explore the city's natural beauty.
- If you're a fan of craft beer, Redmond won't disappoint. The city is home to several excellent breweries, including Black Raven Brewing and Mac & Jack's Brewing Company, both of which have won numerous awards for their beers.
- Redmond is home to the popular Marymoor Velodrome, a cycling track that hosts races and events throughout the year. The velodrome is open to the public for both racing and recreational cycling.
- Redmond is home to several popular annual events, including the Redmond Lights Festival, Derby Days and the Redmond Arts Festival. These events draw visitors from all over the region and offer a fun way to experience the city's culture and community.
