REDMOND, WA — A fire damaged several businesses in a Redmond strip mall early Friday, and the flames completely destroyed a popular restaurant. According to the Redmond Police Department, Tropea Ristorante Italiano was considered a total loss, and at least two other businesses in the Marbella Strip Mall suffered heavy damage. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Police said work to clean up water from the fire response was ongoing but they expected to reopen Northeast 87th Street by late morning.

According to KIRO 7, firefighters arrived at the shopping center to find heavy flames and smoke coming from the restaurant around 4:30 a.m. The Redmond Fire Department told the station that the fire's cause remained under investigation, but the older design of the building allowed the flames to quickly spread through the building's shared attic space.
