Commander Retires After Nearly 30 Years With Redmond Police

Commander Terry Morgan is retiring next month following 30 years of service in law enforcement—including 28 with RPD.

Morgan, a Port Angeles native, began his career with the Ferndale Police Department before joining Redmond PD in 1984. He started in Redmond as a patrol officer and was promoted to commander in 1997.

Morgan's last day with the department will be July 2.

During his years of service, Morgan helped introduce several new programs that were ultimately adopted by other agencies. One of these initiatives was the Supervision Management and Recidivist Tracking (SMART) program, which was designed to reduce repeats in criminal activity and was eventually implemented by more than 70 other law enforcement and corrections agencies.

Morgan also launched a countywide program called FireArm Crime Enforcement (FACE) to detect illegal firearm possession and enforce the law. He also worked on an identity theft and financial crime task force that brought together several agencies in King and Pierce counties.

“I have attempted to create partnerships among different components of the criminal justice system so we can work together to fight crime more effectively,” Morgan said in a RPD news release. “I have forged friendships with people from many agencies, but the thing I have enjoyed the most is working with the dedicated men and women of the Redmond Police Department. We have great people here and I’m happy knowing that I leave the department in such good hands.”
