REDMOND, WA — Redmond neighbors have a chance to weigh in on a permanent name for the city's newest community center, where crews broke ground earlier this month. The new, $48 million facility will span 52,000 square feet, offering a little something for each generation, including a lounge and library for seniors, community rooms and kitchens, a gym, "Kid Zone" and other recreational spaces.

While construction continues, the city is looking for feedback on what to call the new facility, both online and in-person. One way to participate is by filling out a quick online survey, which asks residents to choose their favorite among three choices:

  • Redmond Senior & Community Center – This name recognizes the new facility as a space for all generations to enjoy, gather, and recreate as a part of the vibrant community of Redmond.
  • Red Oak Community Center - This name is a nod to the heritage oak tree located between the new community center and City Hall. The tree is a beloved landmark that has often been used for holiday tree lightings and other community events.
  • Downtown Redmond Senior & Community Center - This name celebrates the location of the new community center situated in the heart of Redmond's municipal campus.

The project is scheduled to open in late 2023 and was designed with energy conservation in mind, including rooftop solar panels that will cover half of the building's electrical needs. Learn more on the city's official website.
