ISSAQUAH, WA β€” Washington State Patrol detectives arrested a driver on suspicion of vehicular homicide after a deadly crash near the Tiger Mountain summit Monday night. Troopers arrived at the crash scene on State Route 18 shortly after 8:10 p.m., and the investigation shut down the highway between Issaquah-Hobart Road and Interstate 90.

According to WSP, a preliminary investigation revealed a blue Ford Escape was heading west when its driver encountered a disabled semi-truck in the left lane. Despite the truck's driver having placed three reflective triangles behind his vehicle, troopers said the driver of the Escape ran right through them and struck the left rear corner of the semi's trailer, killing the person in the car's passenger seat. A photo released by WSP showed extensive damage to the left side of the vehicle.

Detectives said the driver showed signs of impairment and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, then booked into jail. The driver of the semi was uninjured.
