NORTH BEND, WA β€” Eastside fire crews worked Thursday to contain a large brush fire burning on forest service lands outside North Bend city limits. Eastside Fire & Rescue initially confirmed a three-alarm fire response in the Derry Lake area just after 1 p.m. Thursday. About an hour later, firefighters said the flames were actually burning along a service road, further east from the lake.

According to North Bend officials, the fire response was close to Ollalie State Park, off Interstate 90, near exit 38. Eastside fire crews said no homes were nearby or under threat, and firefighting efforts were continuing with assistance from the U.S. Forest Service. Video shared on social media showed helicopters dropping water as smoke poured from a heavily wooded area.

Eastside Fire & Rescue announced the fire had burned two acres and was 50 percent contained by 4:30 p.m.

The brush fire comes after weeks without measurable rain for much of Western Washington, with only a small chance for some showers in the forecast this weekend. More than a dozen large fires were burning uncontained across the Pacific Northwest on Thursday.
