City of Sammamish Seeks Board and Commission Members

Is one of your New Year's resolutions to be more civically involved? Here's an opportunity for you.

The City of Sammamish is actively seeking interested citizens to fill positions on the Planning Commission, Arts Commission, Parks & Recreation Commission and the Beaver Lake Management Board.Β The deadline for submitting applications is this Friday, Dec. 30, 2011.

The Sammamish Arts Commission (SAC) advises the City Council on matters of art. The SAC encourages, sponsors, co-sponsors or conducts on behalf of the City, art programs open to the public to further develop community interest in the fine and performing arts. The committee meets once a month on the Third Monday at 6:30 pm. For more information and application material for theΒ Arts Commission.

The Planning Commission is an advisory group to the City Council on issues relating to the city’s Comprehensive Plan, land use ordinances and regulations. Meetings are held the first and third Thursday of every month. For more information and application material for theΒ Planning Commission.

The Parks and Recreation Commission is an advisory group to the City Council and staff on matters relating to planning, acquisition, development and operation of park facilities and recreation programs within the City. The Beaver Lake Management District is an advisory board of the Beaver Lake Management District (BLMD). The purpose of the Management District is to monitor the water quality of Beaver Lake. To be qualified for this board you must be a resident of the Beaver Lake Management District. The board meets quarterly at mutually agreeable dates. All commission and board meetings are open to the public and are held at Sammamish City Hall, 801 228th Avenue SE. The meetings generally start at 6:30 pm. All positions will begin on Feb. 1, 2012. Most of these positions will be for 4 years, although some positions may be filling vacancies and may be of shorter duration. In addition to the meetings, there are additional duties associated with serving on the commissions.
