"Passport Day" Event Cancelled Due to Looming Federal Government Shutdown

U.S. citizens living in Sammamish and other Seattle area cities who were thinking about getting their passportsΒ at two locations in King County on Saturday will have to wait.

The possibility of a federal government shutdown has prompted the U.S. State DepartmentΒ to cancel the "Passport Day" event, according toΒ a noticeΒ posted on the city of Sammamish's website.

It was scheduled to take place at the Cottage Lake Community ServiceΒ Center in Woodinville and the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent.

"Passport Day" was intended to give citizens the opportunity to get the identification document on a weekend dayΒ instead of during a weekday, which can be busy.
