Consumer Alert: Infant Tylenol Recalled Due to Bottle Design Issue

The Huffington Post reports that Johnson & Johnson has recalled its recently redesigned Infant Tylenol over dosing concerns.

Johnson & Johnson, which has been plagued by recalls, said Feb. 17 it isΒ recalling all 574,000 bottles of grape-flavored, liquid Infants' Tylenol in the "SimpleMeasure" bottle from stores nationwide after parents complained the redesigned bottle's dosing system doesn't work properly.

The Huffington Post, which is affiliated with Patch, reported thatΒ 17 parents or caregivers have complained that a protective cover on the top of the bottles didn't work correctly. The protective cover is meant to limit how much of the liquid pain and fever reducer can be drawn into a plastic syringe. However, consumers said that when inserted, the plastic syringe pushed the protective cover, or flow restrictor, into the bottle.

The Huffington Post reported that J&J's McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit has had about 25 product recalls since September 2009. Company officials said it's too soon to say when the product will return to store shelves.

The company said customers can continue to use the infant Tylenol if the bottle's flow restrictor remains intact. If not, they can request a refund by contacting McNeil at 1-888-222-6036 or .http://www.tylenol.com
