Eastside Firefighters Deploy To Cheney Wildfire
Eastside crews are assisting firefighting efforts in Spokane County, where a brush fire quickly grew to thousands of acres Wednesday.
ISSAQUAH, WA β Eastside Fire & Rescue sent a crew Wednesday to assist firefighting efforts at the Williams Lake Fire in Spokane County, just a few miles south of Cheney. The fire sparked Wednesday afternoon and quickly grew to 100 acres, and officials estimated 400 structures were threatened. By evening, the brsh fire had ballooned to 3,200 acres, prompting evacuations for dozens of homes.
The state Fire Marshal's Office authorized assistance under Washington's mobilization plan to help contain the flames, and the fire's cause remains under investigation.
Eastside firefighters are among the crews who answered the call for help and deployed late Wednesday to assist in containment efforts, officials announced Thursday morning.
