WSP also cited a University of Utah study that found drivers who text are six times more likely to be involved in a collision than drunk drivers.
State law prohibits drivers fromΒ texting or talking on their phones without the use of a hands-free device. Violations carry a penalty of $124, which may be increased in the event of a collision.
