Floodwaters Close Several King County Roads, Parks Tuesday

KING COUNTY, WA β€” Multiple roads, parks and parking lots remained closed in East King County Tuesday afternoon in the wake of a record-breaking storm that brought many area rivers to their flood stages.

According to King County Road Services, portions of several low-lying roads along the Snoqualmie River remained closed at 2 p.m., impacting travel around Fall City and Carnation.

The Snoqualmie River reached its major flood stage late Tuesday morning near Carnation and was not expected to crest before late Tuesday night. Forecasters expected that stretch of the river would dip below the minor flood stage sometime Wednesday evening.

The flooding follows record-setting rainfall Monday across Western Washington, which pushed several waterways to various flood stages, including the Snohomish, White and Green rivers. The resulting floodwaters kept several trails, parks and other recreational areas shuttered Tuesday.

  • Five Mile Park - Fishing dock closed due to high water
  • Lake Youngs Trail - Section of trail is closed from 148th Ave SE to SE 224th St due to hazardous tree.
  • Preston-Snoqualmie South Trails - Bridge 2272-2 closed to vehicles and pedestrians
  • Skyway Park - Parking lot closed due to flooding
  • Soaring Eagle Park - Iron Goat trail within the park closed for reroute
  • Tolt boat launch - Closed due to flooding
  • Tolt-MacDonald - Main gate closed due to flooding
  • Tolt river road - Closed due to flooding

Fortunately, forecasters said most rivers were expected to crest by Tuesday evening or early Wednesday, and flooding will continue to recede amid more showery conditions through Thursday. The weekend ahead looks to be nice and dry.
