From Throwing a Javelin to a Design Award for the Sammamish Library, the Week in Review

Another week has passed. Another batch of news and information to consider, as you think about the coming week.

We at Sammamish Patch know that news and information can move by quite quickly these days. It happens - and our schedules can be pretty hectic.

So in an effort to help, here is our annual week in review, which hits key stories. They're good to keep in mind as the next seven days unfold.

Monday: Sammamish Patch real estate columnist Joan Probala reminded people to keep distressed and non-distressed properties in mind as they come up with an asking price for their houses.

Tuesday: Consultants on Monday night unveiled three possible designsΒ and cost estimates for a Sammamish Community Center - which might have swimming pools. No decision has been made about what will happen. But the process continues. The next community center meeting will be in June.

A group of Skyline High School students, who build model rockets, received a nice honor - competing in a national competition on May 14. A team from Texas won that overall event.

Two men have been chargedΒ with using emergency access keys - which are meant for firefighters and other legitimate responders - to break into Eastside businesses. None were in Sammamish. The case has been linked to identity theft and fraud.

Wednesday: Sammamish Patch offers a list of ways to save money - thanks toΒ parenting columnist Kathleen Miller - as gas prices inch higher.

City Council politics heated up a bit, as Tom Vance announced that he will run for the seven-member body. He plans to seek the seat that , who is stepping down, occupies.

GeekWire.comΒ picked Jeff Shuey, a Sammamish resident, as its Geek of the Week. Sammamish Patch offered some excerptsΒ of the tech website's interview with Shuey.Β 

Sammamish Patch also launched two community blogs - one by John Galvin and the other by Kimberley Hornsby. Sammamish Patch would like to thank the two of them again for doing so.

Thursday: John Galvin, a Sammamish psychologist, declared his intention to run for a City Council seat - the one being held by Councilwoman Nancy Whitten. He also blogsΒ on Sammamish Patch.

In the Sammamish police blotter, a woman reported that her $16,000 engagement ring had been stolen, among other items.

On Wednesday, students from Skyline, and Β met at the Eastlake campus for "Plateau Pink Day" - which was designed to help raise awareness about breast cancer.Β 

Friday: News broke that the had received a design honorΒ from Library Journal, a prestigious magazine which covers the field. Library Journal praised the Sammamish Library for its design, location and sensitivity to the environment.

Saturday: Students from Eastside Catholic School pitched in at on Friday to build a trail. The preserve is scheduled to open in October.

Heidi Dietrich, Edmonds Patch editor, profiled a Seattle runner who is going to participate in a run where the temperature starts at 100 degrees. Sammamish runners, are you game?
