SAMMAMISH, WA β€” We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

This submission comes from Pam Winskill who nominated her son Christopher of Sammamish-Issaquah.

Lacrosse

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

Chris has Juvenile Arthritis and a metatarsal coalition in his foot, which means playing is sometimes uncomfortable. But he has been with the team since 2nd grade and he tries his best. He knows he isn’t a star player and is even considering his future in the game at HS level because he thinks he lets them down sometimes but he never waivers in supporting his team, advocating for himself and other players with chronic illnesses and at school showing the level of sportsmanship in his mannerisms that any pro athlete would be proud of!

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?

You never know how hard a day he’s having but his smile is always a gift for you.

Keep up the great work, Christopher!
