The philosophy behind the scholarship program is to give young people every opportunity to prepare for the future and to engage them in their communities. The program also demonstrates the importance of civic involvement, and the value placed on civic involvement by the business community. Β
Baghai has volunteered for several years as Issaquah Soccer Club's Youth Head Soccer Coach, coaching the same team from U-10 to U-13.

He also worked for non-profit student-run youth organization Junior State of America (JSA) in a variety of leadership positions, and was honored with "Best Speaker Award" and "Key Clubber of the Year" Award.
At the time the school nominated him for the award, Baghai was planning to study economics at University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. He was also editor of The Beat, the student page in The Issaquah Press. Β
