Lacrosse in the Snow? When it was 29 Degrees? Yes, on Saturday, on the Sammamish Plateau
Chilly temperatures and enough snow to think you were at a higher elevation didn't stop a Saturday pre-season lacrosse jamboree on the Sammamish Plateau.
Parents were bundled in their scarves and otherΒ cold-weather gear such that a visitor would think they were at a high-elevation ski resort.
But the youths on the playfields at Β for this gameΒ on Saturday only sported shorts and theirΒ maroon or blue-and-orange jerseys.
No down or fleece for them.

Eastside Crusaders Youth LacrosseΒ sponsored a pre-season lacrosseΒ jamboreeΒ on the Sammamish Plateau on Saturday. And just like the U.S. Postal Service and Broadway in New York City, the show went on.
Of course, not beforeΒ players and others grabbed shovelsΒ starting Friday toΒ clear the snowΒ from the synthetic fields.

Teams came from Bainbridge Island, Shoreline, Monroe, Bellingham, Lynnwood, Mukilteo and University Place for the jamboree, which also had games at and .
Parents on the sidelinesΒ said the players for this particularΒ game involving Eastside and EastlakeΒ were around the middle school schoolΒ age. A few, though, had sprouted soΒ tall that they couldΒ easily be picked for a high school basketball team.
To get good views or around the field, parents manevueredΒ overΒ small mounds of snow. Players who rested on the sidelines stood on top of a few snow piles.
Coaches yelled instructions from the sidelines. Some parentsΒ snapped photographs from the sidelines - and yes, while they stoodΒ on small mounds of snow.
Of course, people cheered when one team scored.
At times, snow flakes driftedΒ in the air, reminding Sammamish residents that while spring might be getting closer it still was winter.
Or asΒ one mom said to another when the two passed: "Stay warm."
As she said that, though, kids in shortsΒ trotted and sprintedΒ by her on the field - trying to put the ball in the net.
It was a good thing itΒ wasn't, say, 27 or 28 degrees on Saturday. If it was that cold, organizers might haveΒ had to call the jamboree off.
The Saturday jamboreeΒ was scheduled to start atΒ 9 am and end at 7 pm.Β TheΒ regularΒ lacrosse season, parents said,Β starts soon.Β
