Make Your Mark on History: Help Name Sammamish's Newest Park

Sammamish is holding a “naming contest” for its newest public space, a 16-acre park that borders Southeast Eighth Street. This new park, a beautiful mixture of meadows, trees and ponds , has been operating under a temporary placeholder name – Southeast Eighth Street Park. Recently, the historic . With planning underway for the new park, now the city seeks residents' help to come up with a permanent name worthy of this terrific gift!

If you haven’t already visited, we encourage you to take a stroll through the park. As you reflect on your personal experience, perhaps a new name will come to mind! Then, visit the city's contest page here to submit your entry.

 Typically, a park name reflects:

• The property’s geographical location within the city and/or the adjoining subdivision;
• The park’s natural or geological features;
• Any historical or cultural significance;
• And the wishes of the community in which it is located.

But don’t let that limit your choices. Allow yourself to be inspired so we can give the park naming committee a lot of choices! They convene in August to sift through the entries and provide a recommendation to the City Council.

What do you get if you win the naming contest? Public recognition, of course, but more importantly – a place in history! Just think, when Sammamish residents visit the park 50 years from now, they’ll see park signs emblazoned with the great name you came up with!
