With the May Day gatherings and protests square in the public eye Tuesday, some, including Seattle's police chief, blameΒ a small squad of anarchistsΒ for disrupting what had been billed as a peaceful day to honor workers.
May Day started quiet but that peace didn't last long,Β according to the seattlepi.com.Β
In Seattle, some protestors, identified as about 30 Black Block protestors, smashed windows of large banks and corporate businesses, and vehicles have been damaged.

The Seattle Police DepartmentΒ reported on its blotterΒ that it had made multiple arrests, and had seized "homemade incendiary devices and bags of feces."
KOMO Radio reported that Seattle City Hall was locked down.

Mayor Mike McGinn said in a press conference today about 2:45 p.m. that he signed a special order allowing police to confiscate items that might be used as weapons from the remaining 300 protesters in Westlake Center. Undercover police are reportedly in the crowd.
More protests were scheduled for 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
