ISSAQUAH, WA β€” A lengthy section of Newport Way Northwest reopened in Issaquah Friday morning after crews successfully cleared a large pile of debris left by a landslide two days before. The city closed Newport to thru traffic, between Lakemont Boulevard Southeast and State Route 900, after a slide blocked the route near Northwest Oakcrest Drive early Wednesday.

A concrete barrier installed in 2020 helped contain the debris field, and crews worked into Friday morning to clear out the remaining trees and dirt. The city announced the road was fully reopened just after 10:30 a.m. Friday, while crews finished removing equipment from the area.

In the long-term, the city is continuing work on a significant overhaul of the Newport Way corridor, designed to improve conditions for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists in the coming years.
