PSE Still Working to Determine Cause of Issaquah Power Outage

Around 6,000 customers in the Issaquah Highlands and Talus areas of Issaquah were affected for about 3 hours Sunday evening.

Power transformers at a Puget Sound Power substation are being replaced after a power outage in Issaquah Sunday night knocked out power for nearly 3 hours.

PSE spokesperson Ray Lane said that a power substation in West Issaquah failed at 9:27 p.m., affecting 6,000 customers, mainly in Issaquah Highlands, Talus, and other neighborhoods on Cougar Mountain.

Power was re-routed to a different power substation with sufficient energy load to handle the demand of those without power at 12:10 a.m. The West Issaquah substation remains offline as of 3 p.m.

"We don't know why it had issues" and are working to determine the cause of the outage, PSE's Lane said. "It's a bit of a mystery right now."
