Police say it was sheer luck that a 4-year-old Sammamish boy escaped with only minor injuries after he fell from a second-story window in the Pine Lake area on May 27.
The child was playing unsupervised in a second-story bedroom of a home on the 20800 block of SE 20th St. with a 3-year-old girl at 3:15 p.m. when he climbed up onto a small table near a window with a screen and opened the blinds and leaned against the screen.
The screen fell out and the boy then fell out the window. Eastside Fire & Rescue EMTs treated the boy as he sat on his father's lap, crying and talking and with minor facial injuries.
The little girl's mother told police that she and the child's father were sitting in the kitchen when they saw the boy hit the ground in front of them. A police officer noticed a small roof section directly below the bedroom window that the boy may have hit, cushioning the fall onto the wet grass below.
EMTs placed the child on a backboard with a c-collar as a precaution and transported him to a nearby hospital as a precaution.
